IndiGo Kuwait–Hyderabad Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai After Bomb Threat
An IndiGo flight travelling from Kuwait to Hyderabad was forced to make an emergency landing in Mumbai early Tuesday after authorities received a bomb threat via email. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew were evacuated without incident.

How the Threat Emerged
The flight was mid-air when security officials in Hyderabad reportedly received an alarming message claiming that a “bomb” or “human bomb” was on board. Given the severity of the warning, the crew was immediately instructed to divert the aircraft to Mumbai, which is equipped to handle such high-risk situations.
Emergency Protocol Activated
As soon as the aircraft approached Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, full emergency protocols were activated. The plane was taken to an isolated bay, away from regular passenger terminals. Bomb squads, dog units, and airport security teams quickly surrounded the aircraft to begin a thorough inspection.
Passengers Safe, No Explosives Found
After landing, passengers were safely escorted out and moved to the terminal for additional screening. Authorities conducted a detailed search of the aircraft, luggage, cargo section, and lavatories. No suspicious item was found in the initial sweep.
While the threat appears to be a hoax, officials are treating it with complete seriousness. Bomb threats in aviation, even when false, trigger mandatory emergency responses to safeguard lives.
Investigation Underway
A full-scale investigation has been launched to track down the sender of the threatening email. Cybercrime experts are analysing the digital trail, IP addresses, and timestamps to identify the source. Police are also checking passenger details and cross-verifying information with airport surveillance footage.
Recent Pattern of Hoax Threats
This incident comes amid a rising trend of hoax bomb threats on flights coming from Gulf countries to India, causing repeated diversions, delays, and heavy operational disruptions. Aviation safety experts warn that even false threats create significant panic and financial loss, and strict action must be taken to deter such behaviour.
What Happens Next
IndiGo has cooperated fully with authorities and assured passengers that safety remains its highest priority. The concerned aircraft will return to service only after receiving all technical and security clearances.
The incident serves as a reminder of the intense security challenges airlines face and the importance of swift, coordinated action during emergencies.
