Delhi Blast: 10 Dead, 24 Injured; NIA–NSG Team at the Spot
A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort has left 10 dead and 24 injured. NIA and NSG teams are on-site to investigate the cause and examine possible terror links.

Introduction
Tension gripped the national capital on Tuesday evening when a powerful explosion near Red Fort killed 10 people and left 24 injured. The blast occurred inside a parked vehicle, causing a massive fire that quickly spread to nearby cars.
Emergency teams, including the fire department, police, and paramedics, rushed to the scene within minutes. People present in the area described scenes of panic, screams, and chaos as thick smoke covered the surroundings.
Blast Triggered Fire, Nearby Vehicles Damaged
Eyewitnesses said the parked car suddenly exploded, and flames rose several feet high.
- At least five vehicles parked nearby got damaged due to the fire.
- Glass from nearby buildings shattered because of the explosion.
- The injured were taken to multiple hospitals for emergency treatment.
Some victims were so close to the car that they were thrown several meters due to the impact.
NIA and NSG Take Charge of Investigation
Given the location and the scale of explosion, the case was immediately handed over to two national-level security agencies:
Agency | Role |
|---|---|
NIA (National Investigation Agency) | Examining possible terror involvement and origin of explosive materials |
NSG (National Security Guard) | Handling forensic examination, collecting explosive residue, and ensuring area safety |
Officials from both agencies are scanning:
- CCTV footage from nearby buildings and traffic posts,
- The remains of the car to identify the trigger mechanism,
- Mobile tower data to track suspicious movement.
One officer confirmed that some material recovered from the car resembles high-grade explosive devices, but laboratory tests will confirm the exact nature.

Possible Terror Link Under Scanner
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the explosion may have been planned intentionally.
The area near Red Fort has high security importance, especially since the site remains crowded with tourists and locals.
Security personnel are investigating:
- Whether the explosion was remotely controlled,
- Whether the car was abandoned just minutes before the blast,
- Whether the target was random or planned.
The Anti-Terror Cell is assisting Delhi Police with interrogation of suspects from nearby localities.
Eyewitnesses Describe the Moment
People who witnessed the incident are still shaken.
A shopkeeper near the site said:
“There was a loud noise, and then we saw fire. People started running in all directions.”
Another eyewitness said that flames began coming out of the car within seconds of the blast.
Several videos shot by locals show burning vehicles and people helping the injured before emergency services arrived.
Security Heightened Across Delhi
Following the explosion:
- Checkpoints have been set up at key entry points to the city,
- Vehicles are being inspected more rigorously,
- Red Fort and nearby areas are under heavy police surveillance.
Police have urged citizens not to panic and avoid sharing unverified videos or rumours online.
Government Responds, Hospital Alert Issued
The Home Ministry is receiving continuous updates from the investigation team.
Hospitals in central and north Delhi have been put on alert mode to ensure immediate treatment of victims.
A senior government official stated:
“All agencies are working together. Public safety remains our highest priority.”
Conclusion
The blast near Red Fort is a serious security concern.
While initial priority was rescue and medical help for the injured, attention has now shifted to identifying those responsible and understanding the intent behind the explosion.
With NIA and NSG on the ground, more clarity is expected after forensic reports and detailed analysis of the explosive residue.
More updates will follow as soon as authorities release new findings.
